The giant canyon isopod (Porcellio dilatatus) is a large, hardy terrestrial isopod with a broad, grey-brown body and distinctive segmented armour. It is a detritivore, feeding on decaying leaves, wood, and organic matter, making it useful in bioactive enclosures.


care

  • Enclosure: Use a well-ventilated tub with deep substrate, leaf litter, and plenty of hiding spots.

  • Temperature: Around 20–26°C.

  • Humidity: Keep one side moist and the other side drier.

  • Food: Provide plenty of leaf litter and decaying wood, plus small amounts of vegetables.

  • Calcium: Offer cuttlebone or another calcium source for healthy exoskeletons.

  • Hides: Use cork bark, bark pieces, and leaf litter.

  • Maintenance: Remove leftover fresh food and lightly mist the moist area when it starts to dry.
